This procedure is recommended to a patient whose face lacks the right balance due to a weak chin. A strong chin that is proportionate to the face is a requirement to obtain an attractive triangular appearance.

How is the procedure done?
Chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure done within 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the extent of the correction. General or local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used. A specially designed implant material is inserted into a small incision inside the mouth.

What is recovery like?
Temporary discomfort with swelling, bruising, stiffness and numbness will be experienced. These will be relieved by taking the prescribed pain relievers and antibiotics. A small amount of oozing within the mouth immediately after the procedure is normal – this will stop in about 2 days. For about a week, there will be some difficulty in smiling and talking. The chin may be taped for a week to minimize swelling. At this time, the implant is somewhat secured but malposition may occur as late as 6 weeks – so be careful not to bump your chin. In about 2 weeks, majority of the swelling will be gone. Complete resolve of swelling and numbness in the lower lip takes about 3 months.

How soon can a patient go back to work?
Most patients go back to work in 2 to 5 days after the surgery. However, for those with strenuous job, it may take 3 weeks.

When can results be seen?
Results are visible right after the surgery. Patients will appreciate the result better 2 weeks after when most of the swelling has subsided.

Who are the candidates for this procedure?
Candidates are those with small and weak chins without a significant overbite, with realistic expectations and are generally healthy. Patients are advised to inform the surgeon of their medical history, illness and medications prior the surgery.

Chin augmentation is often done with a nose surgery and face lift in order to create the right proportion.

What are the possible complications?
Complications with this procedure are very rare. These rarities include implant malposition due to excessive movement or external force, bone erosion under the implant, over or under projection of the chin, numbness of the lower lip, and infection.

Consumer FAQs  What is Restylane?  Restylane is also known as NASHA (Non-Animal, Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid . Hyaluronic acid as we all know, is a polysacharide that is identical to all species and tissue types. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in Restylane is stabilized that allows a longer lasting aesthetic outcome. It is injected intradermally to the skin and normally lasts from 12 to 18 months. The duration of Restylane in the skin is different for every individual. This is due to the reason that each person has different activities and may be exposed to different types of stimulus in one way or the other.  What should I prepare myself for before a Restylane treatment? Make sure that make up is removed from area where injection will be done. Betadine wash is preferred. Doctor will explain to you what Restylane can do for you, to let you know what to expect. Expectations should be clear in orienting patients on the outcome of each treatment. The results are guaranteed to look very natural.
